Exploring Engineering

Teacher: Mr. Barnes

Room: #421 — SHS Manufacturing Facility

Course Description:

In this course, you will gain an understanding of the various fields of engineering and explore the engineering design process, from conceptual design and optimal choice evaluation to project construction and the need for engineering ethics.

Students dig deep into the engineering design process, applying math, science, and engineering skills to hands-on projects.

They work both individually and in teams to design solutions to a variety of problems using 3D modeling software, and use an
engineering notebook to document their work.

Course Outcome

  • This course emphasizes the development of a design.

  • Students will use computer software to produce, analyze and evaluate
    models of project solutions.

  • They study the design concepts of form and function, and then use state-of-the-art technology
to translate conceptual design into reproducible products.

  • Students are expected to develop portfolios to display their
designs and present them properly to peers, instructors, and professionals.
